Maria P.P. Root
Practicing clinical psychologist focusing her efforts and skills on

A scholar deeply involved in the multiethnic and multicultural

Family Diversity Projects
Family Diversity Projects has created award-winning travel rental
exhibits, including "Of Many Colors: Portraits of Multiracial Families"
& "In Our Family: Portraits of All Kinds of Families," that tour
communities nationwide and internationally. Educating people of all
ages to recognize, support, and celebrate the full range of diversity;
exhibits are designed to help reduce prejudice, stereotyping, and
harrassment of all people who are perceived to be "different" from the
"norm". Family Diversity Projects also provides speakers on diversity
and workshop leaders for conference and exhibit venues.
A diversity training company. Two representatives of the multi-racial
community tackle the deep social complexities and nuances through
speaking events around the country. The intent is to help facilitate
the new vocabulary necessary for understanding and communicating within
our culturally changing country.

National Association for
Multicultural Education, NAME
NAME's main objective is to give educators of preschoolers to upper
level students support and knowledge for teaching their multiethnic
pupils. Founded by a university professor, information available to any
member includes lesson plans and a teaching video.
Soulistic Colours provides multidisciplinary services to enrich
understanding and enpower cultural competence through interactive
diversity and self enrichment programs. Provides services to support
healthy relationships professionally and personally through interactive
trainings and access to resources.

Mixed Heritage Center
The Mixed Heritage Center (MHC) is a clearinghouse of information relevant to the lives of people who are multiracial, multiethnic, transracially adopted or otherwise affected by the intersection of race and culture.
Empowers children and parents through Family Activity nights and a
summer camp for mixed heritage youth.
Interracial Family Pride
Interracial Intercultural Pride, founded in 1978, is the oldest
existing multiracial group in the U.S., based in the San Francisco Bay
Area. A community based organization hosting events and meetings for
multiethnic and transracially adoptive families.
Biracial Family Network, BFN
Twenty five years ago, five mothers of multiethnic and transracially
adopted children decided they needed help and support. This
organization exists in the Chicago, IL area for that very purpose.
Monthly meetings and events are scheduled throughout the year for those
interested in joining the community.
Interracial Family Circle, IFC
Since 1984, the Interracial Family Circle has provided opportunities
for the education, support, and socialization of multiracial
individuals, families, interracial couples and transracial adoptive
families in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Meetings, resources
and youth services are to IFC members and the general public.
Center for the Study of Biracial
Children - CSBC
Offer educational resources and workshops committed to multiethnic
issues. A resource for researching and exploring the complexities of
biracial and multiethnic children.
The Multiracial Family Center
Offers an educational program through which multiracial and transracial
families can come together to help children learn positive racial
identity and cultural competence..
The meaning of the word is "one who understands". This Seattle based
non-profit exists for the benefit of the mixed race community. News,
organzing meetings, a print magazine and an extensive program schedule
for every level of the multiethnic population.
Community awareness and connection organization. Swirl serves the whole
nation through mixed-race community chapters with events for
individuals and families. Chapter activities include: monthly
dine-outs, book clubs, film screenings, discussions, panels, museum
outings, family events, volunteer activities, and advocacy
UK based organization with great forums, resources, and visuals. News
and events round out this extensive website.
People in Harmony
Workshops, discussion groups and social events are all arranged by this
UK based group that has been around since the early 1970's. They offer
articles, book reviews and other writings on the website. The
organization exists for everyone and specifically seeks to encourage
the children towards creative self-definition and self-_expression
through photography, literature, music and poetry.
Essays, forums, blogs and commentaries covering all aspects of the
multiracial population. This is an information filled website for the
perusal of the casual learner or deep intentioned interaction with a
live cyber-based community.
Multiracial Americans of Southern
MASC caters to the needs of multiracial population; people involved in
interracial relationships, and transracial adoptees, by bringing
together these groups of people for discussion groups, social
activities and educational opportunities.
The monumental day of June 12, 1967 when interracial marriage, dating,
sex and living together were legalized, has been termed Loving Day
after the trial of Loving vs. Virginia. Learn and celebrate
this fantastic and often overlooked holiday.
Association of Multiethnic
A group in the San Francisco Bay Area established in 1988. Designed to
represent the multiethnic community nationwide. A driving force and
loud voice in the implementaion of the multiethnic category in
the 2000 U.S. Census.
A legislatively aligned action and awareness group with a 10 year
history of making space on ballots, standardized tests, and government
forms for the multiethnic voter. Volunteer sustained organization,
currently on hiatus until further notice.
The Hapa Project
The website displays the format and a portion of the content of an
artistic book project that surveys the diversity of hapa faces.
Like Minded People
Fresh shirts with conscious statements. Unique for girls, boys (big and
little) and even babies. This is an independent company with a very
specific pursuit of giving voice to the true self.
The Alloy Project
The Alloy Project is a new multimedia project exploring the multiethnic
experience through photography, film and theatre.
The Race Museum
The Race Museum is a new member of the movement to create new national
identity opposed to racialization, with a mission to demonstrate the
social significance of race through art, theater and scholarship.
